![]() I had a wonderful time with this book and have already started reading the second in the series, Boy Made of Dawn. ![]() Chapel describes the landscape vividly and uses its features to advance the story. That these books really bring the setting into play. I love New Mexico and am always looking for books set there but it's raree. ![]() I loved the use of the New Mexican setting and native culture. I can't say more than this without giving away the rather fragile mystery but the plot was not my major interest in this highly readable novel (although it does it's work serviceably). Charlie knows how to find the prime suspect in the case, Thomas Begay, a man Charlie knew on school who drinks too heavily and despises the white man's way Charlie has embraced. He's on the periphery of a possibly major case: the murder of a woman high up in the Bureau of Indian Affairs. ![]() Charlie is a Navajo lawyer looking to make it in a white man's world. Allen Chappell is the first of a new mystery series set in New Mexico. ![]()
